Earn Professional Development Credits
Child care providers can earn 10 professional development hours through the Professional Development Information System (PDIS) by attending all training sessions. Please note, a recorded option and follow-up with the trainer is available if you have to miss a live class.

  • Four online class sessions, including interactive group work, guest speakers, and discussions with subject matter experts
  • Assistance identify practical steps to start using new skills through confidential one-on-one consulting with certified SBDC consultants  
  • Continuous feedback on your business plan and strategy during the course
Curriculum
June 6

The first week of the course starts with introductions and welcome messages, followed by a presentation from a licensing specialist who discusses licensing processes, updates, and top violations. Afterward, attendees explore the nine core elements of a successful business model and get to work on a Business Model Canvas.

June 13

In the second week, attendees learn how to establish expectations using the Child Care Agreement between provider and parent to establish boundaries and expectations.  They then will discover the foundational steps to establishing a business, including financial practices.

June 20

The third week starts with a presentation on financial programs, discussing industry financial resources available. The Iron Triangle framework is introduced to help child care providers improve cash flow. Finally, business continuity and recovery practices are presented, exploring how to build a resilient business.

June 27

The fourth week starts with a presentation on marketing communication, focusing on customer relationships and marketing channels. Attendees then participate in a collaborative problem-solving session called Lean Coffee, led by the East CO SBDC Team and an experienced provider.

Aug 1

The fourth week starts with a presentation on Human Resources, focusing on employee retention. Industry presenters will then share child care grants and funding resources. Finally, attendees will participate in a collaborative problem-solving session called Late-Nigth Lean Coffee, led by the East CO SBDC Team and an experienced provider.
